The train! Yes, ha catch me now! I was fully absorbed into my Alex Rider book and yet still aware of the real world around me but only barely. In the book, I was the one falling off of the train into the hard cold earth. I was the one MI6 came to get right afterward. I was the one being sucked back into the mission by Mrs. Jones and Wolf. I was the one walking away from the fire of the science rooms after a meeting with my own clone. It was fun being another person with problems that you could solve. Problems that went away as soon as you closed the book. Blinking to bring myself back to the real world, I closed the book. I was done. I stood up, looked around and seeing no one, put back the book and grabbed the next one. Then I went back to that dark corner by the window, just light enough to read in. I seemed to blend in because of my grey T-shirt and black pants. That's all I wanted to do today, blend in and have no excitement at all. If only. Though so far I was lucky, no one noticed the sixteen year old girl reading in the corner yet. I just hoped the person who did notice me wasn't and EF cop or that EF cop.

Simon wanderer through the library, he never could find his way around the one back home and now this new library was no different. Growling under his breath Simon wandered back out from one of the isles and looked around. He just wanted to find the section that would have books about tigers, but no! With his library sense the visit to library had turned from whim to frustrating battle with the dewy system. and I’m sure the librarian is hiding from me he thought sliding his eyes over to wear the librarian was hiding behind a book case. He looked around and saw nobody, shaking his head he turned to try another book case and he saw a movement out of the corner of his eye. Before the car accident he never would have noticed it but now, guess there is one use for it he thought glumly and headed over to the movement. err, excuse me he ventured do you know where I would find books on tigers?

I bolted upward, my eyes wide. I was about to run when I saw a man. Not a woman like I had expected. I was so absorbed in my book I didn't even notice the voice was a man's. I took stock of the man. He didn't look like he would be in the EF. He just wasn't confident enough. I familiar yet not-so-familiar in a way scent hit my nose. "Shifter." I said, just low enough for us to hear. I relaxed immediately and mentally smacked myself. Idiot! If that was some human you would have set alarm bells off immediately, not to mention the EF! You keep making mistakes and that was going to get you killed on day. Not to mention seriously hurt. Oh well that already happened. I continued to scold myself adding touches of sarcasm here and there, rubbing my now throbbing shoulder. Getting up like that didn't exactly help the healing process. Stupid EF cop. If I get my hand or hooves on you one day I am surely going to kill you! Then I snapped back to attention. The man was still standing their awkwardly. I wasn't one to make too much conversation these days so I just kinda stared at him and tried to remember what was the question he had asked. "Uh sorry for that. What is it you were asking?" I puzzled. I was sorry, though I wouldn't say or show it. My face was a blank mask, only showing what I wanted it to show. Right at that moment it was suspicion. Who was this guy? Was he friend or foe? All I knew was that he was a shifter. That was it. Not very good.

Simon flinched back when the girl jumped back sorry I didn’t mean to surprise you he apologized, seeing how distressed he’d made her. Simon crinkled his nose, this kid smelt funny a bit like Imp he thought confused, then the girls spoke shifter Simon flinched again, shying away from the kid, how’s she know! he almost cried inside his own head I thought I hide it really well he moaned, distressed by this turn of events. Deciding that the way to get out of this situation was to ignore her comment he forced a smile on his face err, I was hoping you’d direct me to wear I could find a book on tigers he repeated and then her saw her arm, his eyes went wide did you take that to a doctor? he asked.

I gook a step forward after he had shied back like a spooked horse. "Hey. What's the matter? Oh well, I think there over there." I spoke gently, gesturing to the far side of the library. I guess that either he really liked tigers or that he had recently, for the first time, shifted into one. Now it was my turn to flinch back, going further into the shadows, at what he said. I realized that when I rubbed my shoulder the cut was uncovered. I quickly moved the sleeve of my shirt back into place, hiding it once more. "That? It's nothing. Really." I said nervously. I knew that by my actions it would say it wasn't 'nothing' at all. My eyes flashed, much like a horse did when it was trapped. I took up a ready stance, ready to fight my way out or just plain flee at his next actions. My breath came a little quicker. Carnivore. They eat meat. They eat me! That only made me even more nervous as my shifter side took over my thinking. All those prey instincts came rushing into my head. I tried pushing them back to where they belonged but that wasn't working. Just what ever stupid thing you do next don't shift! That stuck in both parts of my messed up head and I knew I wouldn't. I think. Which wasn't very helpful at all.

Being careful to stay a bit further back from the girl just in case she was going to start talking about “shifters” again and that was the last thing he wanted. He was hear to do research so he new what to avoid. He looked over to wear she was pointing that’s the one I just come out of! How could I have missed it? he said amazed at his own inability to spot what was right in front off his face. thank you he managed, the thanks was genuine. sorry I didn’t mean to mention the wound, it’s just I’m a doctor by profession he explained sheepishly but it’s healing up fine, just watch the wound for infection Simon advised and then realized he’d been rambling sorry

I didn't smile but once again I calmed quickly. "I don't blame you...just kinda careless of me. Um..thanks anyway?" I replied. "You didn't like it when I said shifter. Matter of fact you wondered why rather how I could tell, I think. I can tell you if you please, so you can use it to identify friends or foes. Maybe you already half know how." I added before I could stop myself. I cursed mentally. That's what got you in trouble the last time! I head banged myself, literally. I step back and hit the back of my head on the wall on purpose. Maybe you could knock out some brain cells so you can't think so much! Thinking is getting you into trouble. More like curiousity but any how trouble! I now rubbed my forehead in the way people do when their disappointed or frustated at themselves or another person. I was both and in my case at myself.

Simon’s eyes kept getting wider and wider as the girls talked, offering to tell him about being a shifter. He began to shake his head violently, no, no, no he whispered hands held in front of him. Thank you for the offer, but I plan on ignoring it and hopefully it will go away! his voice was low a panicked. Simon hadn’t changed his form since that first terrifying night weeks ago and he didn’t plan on do it again soon. no matter how hard that is! he thought fierily, his fist’s balling up. he was about to walk away when the girl knocked her head against the wall. Simon frowned don’t beat yourself up kid it doesn’t fix anything he advised concerned for her.

"Well it might. It's not going to go away. No matter how much you think it is. Accept that you are, who you are. It makes life easier." I replied. I looked around again. The librarian was looking at us quizzically but otherwise everyone else was busy reading their books. That was fine. Soon the librarian returned to her job. Even better. If he wanted to walk away sure. Let him. I didn't care. Though if he learned how to shift when he wanted to it could save his life one day if he was found out by the EF. I knew it saved mine. "It's your funeral, if anything." I said blankly, not revealing anymore of my thoughts before I sat down and opened my book again. At least I knew that I wasn't going to get killed in an Alex Rider book, no matter how many crazy stunts he did. What this man did next, didn't matter too much to me any more. He was obviously too scared right now to accept who he was so...as I said it's his funeral, not mine.
Make your own banner at MyBannerMaker.com![/img]

Simon groaned in his head when the girl sat back down, His mum use to do that to him when he wouldn’t do what she wanted. She’d tell him it was going to be his funeral and wander off and ignore him for the rest of the day. He’d always given in a gone to see her before morning tea. you really are an idiot um, if I was to hypothetically say yes to you telling me stuff, hypnotically mind he said nervously rubbing the back of his head you are so stupid , what would you, err, hypothetically tell me? he managed to get out, looking one way and then the other, to see if anyone was watching them which only made him look more suspicious.

I looked up as he started to babble. What the heck was he saying?! Then my brain put it all together and I giggled. "I would tell you, hypothetically, that your using your sense of smell. Think of how I smell. To me you smell as if you have another living being inside you. That's how all shifter's smell. Over time, if you get to know a person really well, you can recognize their scent. As for the other Supernaturals, and I haven't met too many, you just kinda know. The witches and warlocks are easy to identify, you can feel their aura of power if they're strong enough. The rest of them, as I said, you kinda just know." I replied. "Now if you used this info, hypothetically speaking, you'll be much better off. Oh and what I said about it's your funeral, that might actually come true with the, you know, EF. Especially if you don't know how to use your shifter side to your advantage. I know my shifter side saved my life." I rubbed my shoulder again, briefly. Yeah, insane woman would have killed me if I didn't shift! I sure hoped this man wouldn't run into the EF, that would be disastrous!

Somebody attacked you? Simon squeaked, shocked. Then the rest off what she said caught up is that why everything’s smelled weirdly lately, hypnotically of course he added hurriedly. So that’s why Imp and Anne smelled different he thought frowning in thought and then his eyes widened People hypothetically attack us? Why? he looked around. how, if I wanted to hypothetically avoid these people, would I do that? he asked nervously. great now I am going to get attack, that on top of having to turn into a stupid tiger he thought glumly, his face falling and all I wanted to do was live a boring life he looked down at his feet and shuffled them great

"Shh." I said eying that snoopy librarian. "Yes. A group of EF attacked me when I first got here. They knew, somehow, that I was a shifter before I did. That very night I shifted into a gray mare. I got this about a week or so ago," I said in a quite tone, nodding to my shoulder, "when some insane woman found out that I was that gray mare that...erm...took care of her fellow teammates." I took a deep breath. Man this guy was so clueless! How could a Supernatural not know about the EF?! "People attack us because were different. They want to kill about half the population in the world because we're Supernaturals, as I said different." I continued. "The best way to avoid the EF is to stay away from them. I don't exactly know how to tell who an EF cop is, so just don't draw attention to yourself. Most of them travel in packs. They are at least smart enough not to attack one of us alone. I think I proved that point to the cop that attacked me. They're very pesky to loose and very determined. An EF cop alone is still pretty confident and determined. Most of them that I've met are very sure of themselves. Oh, and I would get to know the area that surrounds Clearstone. It's very easy to loose them out there when your shifted or hide out from them if you've been sighted. As far as I've observed they don't know the area very well so...they basically get lost. At night they dress in black, camo you see? So be suspicious of people in black at that time, though I'm not saying all people in black are EF just if you see someone following you, loose them. Don't let them follow you to where you, or your friends live. Friends can be helpful, don't make enemies out of someone you want as your friend. You never know what the EF can do to them to get information before they are killed..." I looked at him. I wondered how he was taking all this. After all I just said I killed. Nobody knew that but Jisa. In a normal world I would be in jail. I just realized that. I would be in jail. How did I not realize that?! I suddenly felt a little sick but then I brightened a bit. I was saving the Supernaturals by killing just that handful. That was less of those twisted crooks on the street to hunt and kill us. I sighed. Now where was that nice sedate life that you wanted now? No where in the near future. "Don't judge people for what they've done. Put it behind you and move on. Sometimes you have to do, what you do to survive." I finished. That was the end of Ashleigh's life lessons. Clearstone was a strange town and heck this was a strange world! What could you do about it?

Simons mind boggled. well this is just fantastic he thought miserably, growing up Simon hadn’t even read harry potter so he knew as much about mythical beings and what happened to them as a plankton knows about flying. I only first changed about a month ago and nothing since so I don’t know anything about this err…stuff he said in reply to her incredulous expression of disbelief. Waving his hands around in search of the right word, hypothetically of coarse Simon was to busy worrying about the fact that people in black were going to try and kill him to notice Ash and her murder dilemma. ok, watch for people in groups, people in black at night, groups in black at night his mind was reeling, and they attacked her and she’s only a kid, what’ll they do to me? he wondered in fear. learn the area around clear stone, learn to control your… but I don’t want to turn into an animal he mumbled.

I rolled my eyes when he said hypothetically. Matter of fact, I raised a hand to smack him just to get him to stop saying that darned word! "Stop saying hypothetically. Or the next time you do I'm going to smack you out of it. Got it?" I continued. Then I rolled my eyes again. "Your going to. Unless you learn how to control that part of you, when ever your feeling strong enough emotions your going to shift weather you like it or not. When you learn to get it underhand it doesn't happen." I replied to that exasperated. Would he ever learn to accept what he was? Probably not at this rate. I was just a teen and I knew more about the important stuff, the real world than him, a doctor even!
