Oh no you don't! I rolled my eyes and jumped the fence into the next paddock. What a stupid man! A filly just came in here, no tack and no halter and he just waves her over. I kept jumping fences knowing that the woman would be delayed. This was fun! I tossed my head. The woods would be close and I could loose her in there if I didn't now. I whinnied gleefully and took off my tail flagging behind me. To an experienced horse owner they would say that I was really proud of myself for doing something I wasn't suppose to do! My stride lengthened into a gallop. There was absolutely no way she could keep up with my ground eating gallop. "Try and catch me now!" I seemed to say, the floating gleeful whinny probably drifted back to a very mad EF cop.

Jane stopped an started mouth open that’ll be her won’t it she said glumly staring at the retreating horse it won’t just be a naughty normal horse that jumped over the fence? she asked the bay that was chewing on her hair na, didn’t think so Jane’s fists clenched and she jumped up and down on the spot a few times, the bay was amused by this and wickeder. now don’t you start she growled and trudged off toward the fence, climbing over Jane looked down at the trampled grass I’ll catch you yet kid she said and laughed, it’s wasn’t a nice one, it promised retribution in large shovel full’s. Looking down she began to track the shifter by the hoof prints she left behind. After all she has to stop some time, and when she does…

I slowed to a stop by the river. She was persistent. That I knew. She'd find me so I couldn't go back to my friends house. I didn't want to endanger her. In the middle of a river I shifted and went with the flow, might as well confuse her. By time the woman crossed the river and realized there wasn't and there were no tracks it will have been too late. When I decided I had enough of the water I wrung off my clothes as much as possible and made sure I left no sign. Then I went to a good hiding place out of sight. She wouldn't find or take me easily. Besides I had the stamina of a Thoroughbred. They could go for a mile or more at top speed. I was ready to shift again and take off. At least I was in my safe haven. I knew these wood better than any one I knew...or thought I knew. Just wait and catch your breath then sneak away again if you see her or hear her. I was tempted to half shift, a very tricky thing that took a while to learn. No that would take too long and take up too much of your energy. Though the adrenaline rush was keeping me going pretty good. I could last forever like this! I half relaxed and waited. Just play the waiting game, you know she'll show.

Jane trudged along, looking at tracks the shifter had left. They were going steadily straight and then they veered off. Taking her eyes off the ground Jane saw the creek. I bet she crossed it Jane thought, pulling off her boots and rolling up her pants. Sling her shoes over her shoulder by her laces Jane Jumped into the river. Jane waded toward the other side, the current was not making this easy. Stronger than she’d expected it kept trying to pull her down stream, one slip and she be gone. She slipped. Her feet went out from under her and her head went benth the water. Struggling Jane tried to get a grip back on to the rock, but now the current had her it was not letting go. After struggling and swimming badly Jane pulled herself out on the opposite bank. Thank the various gods that’s over she said standing up and groaning, she’d lost her shoes. She took a step forward and stopped, had somebody been her before her? There was no signs of anything, that’s what stopped her, it had been cleaned up good and proper.

I stood still as a floundering woman came down the river, that was her all right. I took off as a horse trying not to crash through the underbrush. I weaved in and out of the trees, taking a sharp turn here or there. She won't catch me! I pushed on still and jumped over a fallen log. If anyone could see me I would be a misty blur. I knew I could go faster though. There was no need, I didn't know if she had seen me or not. Crap! A box valley that I sometimes used for shelter. I pawed the ground frustrated, knowing I had taken a wrong turn. There a deer path, hard for humans to scale but easy for deer and possible other animals to climb up of. The only problem was that I hadn't found that exact deer path that led up to the one I wanted. Another problem was that there were thorns there blocking the way to the 'main' path. Plenty and plenty of thorns. But I refuse to be caught, easily anyway! I crashed into them jumping and leaping, doing what ever I could to try and keep the thorns from hooking into my flesh. Come and get me now lady! You've found me by accident! You would have kept going if you hadn't fell into the water. I heaved through some more thorns until I was out on 'clear' ground. I could feel my sides heaving and sweat starting to drip off of me. Despite my efforts vines clung to my mane and tail and thorns were painfully embedded in some of my skin. Cleaning up would be a mess! I scrambled up the deer path, slipping only a few times before heaving myself over the top and away to who know where else! Just try and catch me lady, you'll regret it!

Jane heard a tearing sound and spun around, bare feet digging into the mud of the creek bank, to face it. There! she thought and ran toward the noise. She ran with face to the ground looking for any horse tracks she stopped, here some where right in front of here, suddenly after no tracks at all there were heaps. She must have spooked Jane said thoughtfully, she looked up just in time to see the shifters tail disappear into the gloom of the forest. Growling to herself in frustration, Jane plunged into the forest after the run away shifter. Following the path the horse made Jane had en easy time of it racing through the forest bellowing insults after the horse. Then she smiled, the shifter had run herself into a box valley I’ve got you now kid! Jane bellowed. Skidding into the valley she was just in time to watch the shifter try and succeed in climbing out of the valley. can’t you just given in? Jane yelled and ran to the begging of the deer track, pulling herself up she began to scrabble up it, treating it as if she was climbing a slopping roof with no grip. come here horsy, come to Jane!

Man did I wish Jisa was here! We would have killed this crazy lady by now! I slowed to a fast canter or maybe a slow gallop, no time to dwell on it though. I wasn't getting tired, I had plenty more strength left between the excitement that this was actually becoming fun and the fact that she couldn't keep up with a horse forever. She would have to stop sometime. I just relaxed and went with the flow of things for the moment. Where could I loose her? I was in Stonewick forest. That was apparent. I could loose her somewhere in the ruins as a human or I could head down to Quicksilver River and cross it. Highwolf Field would be good, maybe a pack of wolves would find the lady. Deepby moor could be a possibility, I knew where the quicksand and wet and swampy parts were. I could head to Spell crest if I wanted to get caught. Though the cliff could be useful if I wanted to die rather than be killed by the EF but I wasn't ready to give up yet! That would be a last resort. Then there was the fact that I could double back and head back into the mall to be lost by the crowds and escape from there. Ball Beach wouldn't be much help anyway. But there was one more thing I was trying to avoid: A fight. I could attempt that and then when it looked like I was losing I would run again. That would make me look bad and seem like a coward. Which I wasn't...it was just advancing in another direction! Yeah that's how I should put it. My ears pricked and I flicked them around a little. Quicksilver River. If it came down to a fight, if things didn't go well, I could throw myself into the fast current and be swept along. I swerved heading to that direction at full speed, wanting to put distance between me and bull-lady.
When I got there it slide to a stop and took a deep drink before walking up and down the river, cooling myself off. Once I was satisfied I laid down. I was going to look like I was a weak little shifter girl, tired after miles of running. Boy would she be wrong if she fell for it. I dropped my muzzle to my knee and started to doze slightly, knowing it would, more than likely, take the EF cop sometime to get here after all Quicksilver was more or less about a mile or maybe half a mile away. Plus I made it in record time. I let out another deep breath. Let's play the waiting game again.

Groaning angrily Jane pulled herself up the path, darn four legged creatures! The shifter suddenly gained speed as if she had a plan and took off, Damn! At this rate I’ll never catch her! Mumbling rudely to herself Jane finally managed to get to the top, right, now to catch her! Speed walking Jane followed the trail the kid had left, she didn’t run because she didn’t know how far the shifter had gone and so far running hadn’t done her any good. this trail goes forever! she moaned, and it really did seem too. can’t be much further Jane stopped, she could here something, as the sounds of her footsteps faded away she heard something else, A deep breathing. In…out...in…out…in…out When she heard that Jane stepped more lightly, now making no more noise than sunlight did, drawing her bowie knife she crept closer on silent feet. Being bare foot making it easier.

I felt the presence of another being. A short rest had done me even more good while crazy lady had to walk. Metal. My eyes rolled. I was right! She did had a knife. I bared my teeth and flattened my ears before wheeling and trotting rather quickly to the quicker part of the river. I hope your ready for another swim! I reared and trumpeted a challenge. You aren't going to take me down! I tossed my head and pranced, ears high and alert, teeth snapping. Yeah I took down about a dozen of you guys out in the forest with guns, my first terrifying day! How hard could one be with a knife? Though I had help from Jisa. That still boasted my spirits even more and I let out another challenging scream and reared. Bring it on.

Damn the horse had heard her, giving up all pretense of stealth Jane ran toward the shifter hoping to get at it before the horse got of the ground, she didn’t. Then it reared, Jane took a step back, even to someone like Jane who wouldn't know the front of a horse to the back of one, a horse rearing is an impressive sight. That’s over 100kilo grams coming off the ground right there. ok new plan Jane took a step back and ran at the horse, a few feet from it she threw the knife, it was a bad throw and didn’t hit the shifter where she had been aiming, the middle of the chest. But it still didn’t its job. Jane hit the horse with a flying tackle, hoping to knock the horse into the river. maybe I can drown her

First blood. I screamed in pain as the knife cut into my skin and an inch or, more than likely, less into my shoulder. Staying there for a moment before dropping to the ground. I let out a surprised squeal as the crazy woman, now officially pronounced insane, hit me in the chest. I tumbled down rolling once before the current caught me. I let out a whinny of despair and pain, as cold icy water made my wound sting. No wonder she is in the EF, it was probably the only place she could get a job! I kept my head above the water, swimming easily with the current, not bothering to look where insane lady had gone. I was swimming at and angle so I would reach the shore soon...with any luck. Please don't let 'shifter's' luck act on me now!

Jane nearly laughed as she and the shifter hit the water. Finally something’s gone right! Looking back as she fell she saw her knife lying on the forest floor, Damn! Now all I have is a pocket knife Grabbing hold of the horse she reached to her belt and pulled out her pocket knife, my last weapon she thought, putting the handle between her teeth and pulling herself into the back of the shifter. But as she was pulling herself forward to the neck of the shifter her foot hit the shifters leg, The shore foot that she had jammed into the door. Jane gasped and her pocket knife fell out of her mouth NO! she yelled. that was not the plan!

She was on me! That dang insane woman was on me! I flattened my ears and swam harder and faster. She didn't have any more weapons. I hoped. Then she yelled out something about that wasn't the plan and I knew she was out of weapons. I snorted water out of my nose and changed course. Instead of going to the shore I went back to the middle of the current. I was smart, not stupid as I had told a certain tick at the mall. If I went to the shore now the woman would just run back and get her knife. If I swam downstream for a mile or so, if I could hold on for that long, it would take her longer to reach it and give me more time to make my escape. I shook my head and plunged underneath the water before shooting up again, regaining more air, and doing the same thing over and over again. I just had to get her off to a position where she couldn't grab my neck! Who know what she could do attached to it! Pain shot up and down my left shoulder and leg and it burned despite the cold water. I encouraged myself as I usually did. Come on! Come on...just a little further Ash...just a little further. I kept doing my dunking process and swimming with current. Don't fail me now Quicksilver!

horseshemacing in pain Jane just held on come on Jane! she thought mentally kicking herself PLAN! Come on you need a plan! Jane was now out of options and this meant she’d have to bee creative. Rocking with the horse like a bull rider at a rodeo Jane reached forward and wrapped her hands around the shifters neck, Ignoringg the water that kept streaming up around her and vanishing. Getting a firm hold, by digging her hands into the shifters coat, Jane dragged herself forward until her legs were right up on the horse’s shoulders. In a sudden flurry of movement Jane wrapped her legs around its neck and using them to push her up toward the horses face. Whipping out both her index fingers Jane lunged forward, toward the corner of the horses eyes in an attempt to leaver them out.

Alright you wanna go for a pony ride?! Well, I'll give it to you! I grunted with the effort of angeling back to shore. It wasn't easy, after all a certain lady had her legs clamped around my neck and was trying, unsuccessfully, to poke my eyes out. Hooves started to brush the bank of the other shore and I was getting more excited with every little hoof brush. Yes, this was part of my 'plan'. You see, if I couldn't get the distance I wanted, needed really, I could buy at least a little more time by making insane lady swim back across the river to retrieve the knife that I was almost certain she would go back for. I would be long gone back onto a surface she couldn't track me on: Concrete. My nostrils fluttered with a silent excited whinny and my eyes lit up with joy. With no weapons that could really hurt I was home free! I slogged out of the water, let out a buck and tried moving into a gallop. With this weight on my neck it was easier to buck than to gallop and if insane lady didn't fall off with bucking, I had a better idea that would surely get her off. My head low to the ground I was a bronco or a tornado of hooves popping the air. My grunts and squeals of displeasure were clear to just about any idiot. Get off my neck this instant or I have a worse alternative! This yet again reminded me of that first night at Clearstone. I remembered a few days later, after the shock of it all, how satisfying that had been. Maybe I wouldn't kill but at least I would have gotten away...again.
