Nathaniel Mark Everett With the moon I run far from the carnage of the fiery sun... Driven by the strangle of vein showing no mercy I'd do it again. ---
Nathan felt drawn to the peaceful, green little park. Downing Park. He was proud of himself for remembering that. In Clearstone. But where was Clearstone? The humidity of the day had drawn heavier, and carried until evening. The daunting figure, almost all alone in the park, didn't break a sweat- when any normal being would. A black leather coat hung over his shoulders as he stared into the sun as it sunk below the horizon, inching ever so steadily. The colors cast by it were amazing, such colors that amazed Nathan. Nothing in his memory showed what marvels nature was capable of creating. Nathan shoved his hands into the pockets of his large, black leather coat. Underneath was a simple white T-Shirt and he wore jeans.
As liquid gold eyes bore into the remainder of the setting sun, Nathan's back started to ache. His whole spine seemed to be protesting against him. Sighing and flinching, Nathan settled down under a tall oak and leaned against it. The force on his shoulder blades eased the pain, only a dull throb remained. Nathan wondered what was wrong with him... and if it was normal for one's back to hurt like that. Of course he was too afraid to ask anyone, they might know that he was different.
Running a hand through his auburn hair, Nathan closed his eyes and tilted his head back, reveling in the peaceful warmth of Downing Park. He listened right down to the rustle of leaves on the other side of the park and the retreating voices of families leaving for the dangers of dark. Nathan felt a pang of fear. Darkness wasn't good. He couldn't force himself to leave though, so he stayed.

I blinked sleepily. Had I done it again? Yep, I had. I just couldn't seem to help it. I had dozed off in the summer sun, for the second time today. I sprang to my feet, looking around. I could see a family of three, a couple pushing a stroller, and...a guy sitting under an oak tree. Much like I was. I had fallen asleep around twelve in the afternoon and now the sun was setting. I guess I couldn't call that a little nap. I started to walk idly to where the man was sitting. Yeah that's right Ash, go make nice. At least, I hoped that I could make nice. I don't think he is a Supernatural...definitely not an EF hunter so I could play nice. I approached with caution that had become a habit in the time that I had been at Clearstone.
"Hey there." I said softly. The auburn haired guy seemed to be dozing or maybe just thinking. The sun kept sinking and it was starting to get dark, joy of joys. "What are you doing? I'm Ashleigh." Now why did it feel safe to say my name to a stranger, after all you never knew who someone was? No clue but it couldn't do much harm. Not like this person knew anything more or anything less.

There was one girl who hadn't left the park. Her being there was a blotch in his peripheral vision. Nathan just dismissed her, she seemed to be sleeping, therefore she was no harm nor threat. Apparently this was not the case. The young girl got to her feet and started to make her way toward Nathan. The tall man shifted uncomfortably. He never had liked conversation much. She seemed a little hesitant and still a little blurred with sleep. Nathan relaxed, she only seemed to want to talk and she didn't seem evil. Seem being the key word here. Nathan opened his liquid gold eyes and continued to look out at the horizon as the deep violets and reds of the sunset faded into a gold and then a silver, before it slowly fell dark.
"Hello."
He inclined his head slightly, stiffly. He bit his tongue, hoping he wouldn't make a complete social fool of himself.
"Just resting while the sun sets I suppose."
His jaw tightened as he watched every word that dared to leave his mouth. His accent was strange, a mix of all places you could say, but still very clear and strong. She offered her name quickly, which wasn't something Nathan got very often.
"I'm Nathaniel, though I prefer Nathan."
He allowed his eyes to stray to her young face. Ashleigh seemed to be still a teenager, but only barely.

I gave a shy smile. Nathen hadn't gotten up so I sat down, my legs folded under me. "It's nice to meet you Nathen. Some people call me Ash so I guess you can too." I noticed that every word that came out of his seemed hesitant or regrettable, even though nothing offensive was said, and an accent that wasn't exactly an accent. "I suppose you saw me do the same thing...summer heat seems to have that effect. I felt like a lazy lion today." Then again that feeling could have come from lack of sleep, oh well, not that it mattered. I had no idea what I was saying or why. It was just a conversation starter I guess. I was soo not good with conversations, never was. "Pretty soon the stars will be out. I always like to look at them...when I'm not busy." I was still careful with what I said though my tone was kept light and cheerful. Which was strange. It must be the after effect of that cat nap.

The young girl, Ashleigh, sat down beside Nathan with a small smile. She seemed to have social skills slightly higher than Nathan's own, but still seemed tentative about conversation. Nathan felt slightly less uneasy about the whole thing. The dull throb in his back eased until it was gone. The twenty year old wondered if it really was normal for his back to ache like it did. He turned his eyes away from her face and out to the darkness of the sky, a deepening navy blue. Nathan shifted uneasily as he noticed that he couldn't quite see everything around him. The darkness makes everything harder. Shadows lengthened and disappeared. Streetlights flickered on, setting a slight electric buzz through the air.
"Summer is nice, besides the humidity."
Nathan hadn't really heard of the word Summer before, but he guessed that she meant this time of the year. It was really nerve wracking and frustrating to be out of the loop on vocabulary. And what was a lion? As Ash mentioned the stars, Nathan looked up at the tiny one or two that had appeared. The one thing that Nathan loved about the night, was the silence and freedom- but especially the stars.
"They really are lovely aren't they?"
Nathan realized that he really wasn't doing much for the dying conversation. He bit the inside of his lip before forcing himself to carry it on.
"So tell me about yourself Ash."
He soon came to the conclusion that maybe that wasn't the right thing to say. It sounded very... nosey? And very strange, coming out of his own mouth at least. Didn't it?

"They are. So free and..I don't know. Stars are just something special." I replied. My eyes widened at his next comment. What could I tell Nathan without making him run to the hills? Or getting myself in more trouble than I was always in. I was silent for a long time or maybe it was just a few moments. Time could play tricks on your mind when you were thinking. I was gathering what I would say, thoughts tumbling in my mind as clothes do in a dryer. "Well...I'm sixteen. I like to be outside, you know in the forests; swimming in a river. I...home school myself you could say when its time for school. Life lessons come nearly every day. Let's just say, I'm not your average teenage girl." All my muscles were tensed and ready to spring up and run like the wind but other wise I seemed calm. After all that was a normal thing to ask...if you were dealing with normal people. I was far from normal now days, and so was most people that I met or dealt with.

Nathan nodded placidly, the stars really were something. That was why he was out here pretty much every evening to watch them come out. Something told him that in his past, he had never seen the stars. Nathaniel wondered if there was anyone else like him, who knew nothing about this world. Her sudden silence at his question unnerved him. So it had been the wrong thing to say. The auburn haired twenty year old averted his eyes to the stars instead, trying not to grimace.
It was a while before she spoke, and when she did, Nathan realized that he'd gone off into his own little world, barely aware of anything around him. Ash's words tumbled out of her mouth as if she had no idea what to say or she just didn't know how to put it. The slow sound of crickets came out to greet the end of her sentence and Nathan stayed quiet for a moment.
"I wouldn't know what average was, so I suppose that doesn't matter, does it?"
Nathan's eyes widened as he realized that he did just say those words. He quickly regained his cool composure. Now why did he even say that? In the silence, Nathaniel found that since Ashleigh had told him about herself, it would only be common courtesy to return the favor.
"I'm twenty. I don't have a job. I like it here, though... I find it sort of strange, something about it. And that's pretty much all there is to me, besides the fact that I love sunset and the stars."
With that, his liquid gold eyes turned toward the sky again. Blushing slightly under the paleness of his skin.

I shrugged as Nathan tried to tell me something about himself. Why did I get the feeling that Nathan had been locked in a concrete cell with no windows or ways to contact the outside world for most of those twenty years? That could be possible...nah.
"Clearstone is a...strange place. It has some mysteries that some of its population is unfortunate to know. A dark side you could say." A dark side that I am all too familiar with. By choice and yet not by choice. As always my thoughts had two sides to them. A 'yes' and a 'no' part to them, you could say. Though it could also be a 'I don't know' thing... I was heading into that deep state of thought, almost unconsciously, and I knew it so I started to talk. "Um...we're not very good at conversations are we? I'm not really sure why I even try any more."
That I wasn't. What was the use any way? Most conversations were really pointless. This conversations sure seemed to be...and then again maybe it wasn't. There I go again with the 'yes' and 'no' side of things. I could never make my mind up about these sort of thoughts. Best just to think about them with an open mind.

Nathan nodded, but felt her suspicious feelings coming off of her in only slight waves. Barely even there. Clearstone certainly was a strange place, shouldn't a guy like Nathan fit in then? Probably not. The young man squashed that hope shortly after its birth. There wasn't much point in high hopes, it would only let a person down later on. A dark side.. Why did that sound so ominous? Nathan ran a hand through his messy hair and leaned forward on his knees.
"A dark side?"
He echoed in query, only wondering. It was sort of an open question. Ash didn't have to answer if she didn't want to of course. Ash's next words were amusing, a smile broke out at full speed on Nathan's face with a chuckle.
"No, we're not."
He had to think about it. Why would someone try repeatedly at something if they knew they weren't any good at it? He turned to Ash, a small sparkle in his eye as he teased.
"You're probably just stubborn."

"Yes, a dark side." I refused to say anything more about that subject. I couldn't not without giving away the fact that Supernaturals exist, if this guy even knew about Supernaturals. Some how I doubted that he did. Even so I wouldn't say anything more, that would be something for him to figure out on his own.
"More than you will probably ever know." I snorted. Nathan didn't have a clue. I gave him a cocky grin. I knew he was teasing, even though I took it half seriously. "Determined, yes, we could say that too. About the both of us, more than likely." I looked up at the sky. It seemed to be darkening every time I payed attention to it. Stars were winking and glittering. I was starting to look around for people who might be watching us with interested eyes. But no one was around. The park was seemingly empty. "So what do you like to do in a typical day? I'm usually wandering around Clearstone. You can find me any where really." If you could find me.

Ash's short answer was a hint, and Nathan knew that. So he dropped the subject completely. Nevertheless, his mind still wandered around the idea that there was a dark side to such a sleepy, unassuming little town. Seeing as Nathaniel didn't know much about life itself, he was soon a lost cause on that topic. Anyway, Ash could be messing with him. It could happen right? She returned his teasing with a cocky smile that only managed to make Nathan's perfectly white smile widen. Her next comment caused him to shake his head.
"No, if I really was stubborn or determined, I would have pushed that mysterious 'dark side' comment until you gave me the answer. But I didn't."
And it was true, Nathaniel wasn't much of a perseverance person. When someone wanted to dissuade him, then it was easy. All to avoid confrontation and bad situations. Maybe it wasn't the best way to live but it was a life right? Nathan followed Ash's gaze up to the glittering carpet of stars across the sky. It was a wonder anyone could live without the stars. Besides the darkness, Nathan wished it could be night all of the time. Ash asked another question. The young man identified it as simply conversation but how to answer? It was near impossible because... well what did Nathan do on days like this?
"I guess I just... wander. I like to stay near open spaces in town though, you won't find me out at Quicksilver River or anything. I usually like to stay around the park."

"Ah but you still might be determined or stubborn. Since you decided not to push the matter, it shows your smart. Besides I wouldn't have given you an answer. I don't think your a person that would try to push me over the edge for an answer anyway." I taunted back. Nathan looked at the stars like I was doing. I was starting to think over my plans for the rest of the night. It was either go running through the forests or bother some unlucky EF hunters... The second on sounded equally as good as the first, though I gave myself and extra option. I could do nothing and just take the night off for some much needed sleep. I could decide later, if the urge hit me. "Sounds good. Downing Park is one of the few places I have yet to met the-" I stopped abruptly. What was I saying? Idiot. "Nobody. I haven't met any one here before you came." I said quickly. It was an excuse covering my fumble. Not a lie at all...or not in my eyes. I quickly decided to change the subject. "It sounds as if we lead fairly uneventful, boring lives. Just doing as we pleased." Boy, now that was a lie. Though I sealed off all guilty emotions from my current masked of teasing humor.

"Don't you?"
Nathan asked Ash, yet seemed to be asking the world. Truthfully, Nathaniel didn't even know if he was the type to keep pushing for answers. It seemed not, so far, but he hadn't been given many opportunities to figure out his personality. All Nathan knew was that he was clueless. His eyelids felt heavy, but his mind raced with energy. The dull thrum in his spine disappeared. Her cut-off sentence told Nathan that this Ash had a lot more secrets than the average girl. Not that he knew what average was but you know.
"Secretive girl are we?"
He asked her, only subtly telling her that he knew there was more to it, he wasn't an idiot. Well, not too much of one. She deftly switched the subject and Nathan went with it. Might as well. No reason fighting for answers that would come with a blood price. For some reason, Nathaniel felt that the statement was true.
"I doubt that."
Nathan answered her very firmly, he knew in his heart that it was true. Ash just didn't seem the type of girl to sit back and do nothing but wandering. She was sixteen, anyway, which meant she should be in school... right?
"Though I'm the one to talk."

"I do. Your not like some people I've gotten acquainted with." I replied seriously. I smiled slyly but this smile did not met my eyes. They were as cold, wild, and brown as they usually were on most occasions.
"You figured that out when?" A question answered with a question. How...original I suppose. Having a conversation with someone...normal, was harder than I thought it would be. Most other people I had talked to were Supernaturals or EF cops. They knew about the world that I belonged to. Some better than others. I stared at Nathan and tried to imagine what he was thinking. I think I got a pretty good idea. Or it could be a million miles away from the truth, I'm not a mind reader after all. At least I hope I wasn't. Very unlikely that I was or maybe I wouldn't have gotten myself in some of the messes that I had previously gotten myself in.
"See. Don't beat yourself up too much about not knowing some things. Because you know more than you think. Your right. I wouldn't call my life boring. Not at all. Far from it." I shifted my weight a little and waited to see what he had to say about that. What I said couldn't really hurt me...at least I didn't think so. I didn't dare to even hope that it wouldn't. Words from the past tend to start sneaking up to you when you are in some kind of situation that goes back to those words that you said on that particular day. Words from the past were worse than...eh ghosts and goblins. As far as I can figure.

Nathan shook his head, his white smile flashing from underneath his lips. This Ash was definitely a character. She acted much older than any other girl her age- or did she? It was very confusing, but it seemed instinctive to think that. Somehow, he felt slightly sad for her. She shouldn’t have to keep secrets with seemingly that much weight, and have to meet people that she genuinely could not trust. Sometimes innocence is a good thing. Nathan hoped so anyway.
“Just now.”
He answered, his brows pushed together in slight confusion. Ah sarcasm, Nathan really didn’t get that quite yet. The young man brushed his floppy hair out of his eyes and listened to her explanation of secrets.
“Sometimes it’s better to know than to be ignorant, some things can go and stab you in the back, just taking advantage of that.”
He shrugged, Nathan did wish he knew what had happened to him and what this girl was hiding. Sighing, he half smiled at nothing again before turning completely serious.
“Listen, I can’t remember anything- only my name. I don’t know what that’s really about but I have a feeling that this place isn’t a coincidence for me." --- Open up your eyes, you keep on crying, baby I'll bleed you dry. Skies are blinking at me, I see a storm bubbling up from the sea.
