Long ago the cats were pets. They had the life being fed and catered to by humans. Until one day a plague broke out among the humans. Cat after cat was left homeless and hungry. The humans who had not yet succumbed to the disease looked for what was responsible for such an evil plague. After months of fruitless searching they realized that the only creatures not affected by the disease was the cats that they had loved and cared for. So they did what any person scarred for their people would do. They killed all cats in site regardless if they were someone's pets or not. By the time the cats realized their danger there were only a handful of them left. They all agreed to leave their homes and venture into the unknown wilds to the south, and swore that they would NEVER AGAIN trust a human. . .
