The moon was just coming out, just enough moonlight to see by, and mist swirled all around me. I ran from one side of Highwolf Field to the other or sometimes running around the perimeter. I would stop in the middle to half rear and pivot on my hindquarters and start to buck before repeating the pattern. Yes, I was practicing. For what, I have no clue. Perhaps it was just for everything. Perhaps it was for nothing. Perhaps it was for fun. I would probably agree with the last one. Though most normal people wouldn't call what I was doing fun. They would call it...training or even a punishment in some cases. My mouth was gaping as I gasped for breath. Time to rest... I thought. Already my mind was starting to feel fuzzy from the lack of rest. I headed to the middle of the field of swirling fog and tall grass. I remembered the sparring session I had with Jisa, how I was scared half to death when she shifted into her panther form. I had thought it was a wolf and my horse side panicked. I let out horsey laughter. I could laugh about it now but at that moment it really had been terrifying, at least to half of me!
I let myself shift as I crumpled into a heap. Now to sleep the sweet sleep of satisfied exhaustion. I had only slept for maybe...three hours? Such a deep, dreamless sleep. I rubbed my eyes sleepily and sat up. Something was watching me. Or was it someone? I let myself sink back into the high grass. A slight breeze from the west cooled the summer air around me. Spring traces were almost gone and hot, humid summer was about to take a firm grip on Clearstone till fall loosened its clutches. I let my senses reach out about me. I couldn't smell anything, what ever it was must have been downwind. I definitely couldn't see anything. I tasted the air, nothing abnormal there. So I strained my ears to catch the slightest sound. There. It was in the eastwardly direction, no wonder I couldn't smell anything! A rustle of grass came from the north too. And the south and west. I realized what these creatures were doing. They were surrounding me! I leaped to my feet, trying to catch whether these were human or animals I was dealing with. It was what half of me feared. The animals that this field was named after: Wolves. Though why they were hunting me, well, beats me. Maybe, if I could show them I was a human now, not a horse, they would go away. I lifted my right foot and pulled out my pocket knife. Alright your now officially as insane as insane lady... What was a pocket knife going to do against a pack of wolves?!
"Get away! Arghh!" I yelled, waving my arms and just plain making noise. I rushed at one of them and it danced away. The pack was starting to realize that I wasn't their next meal. I continued to yell at them until they disappeared into the darkness. I whorled around. Something else was here. I groaned. Not now, I'm not in the mood. I guess it was only fair for them to catch me slightly off guard every now and then. That's just life. Alright, I suppose this is just another training exercise. Why not give them what they came for, you know, a little chase and then disappear. Okey dokey then. I ran right past the small group of EF, shifting as I went. "Tag you guys are it!" I yelled just seconds before I shifted. Come on let's play tag! There were cries of surprise and I would have grinned if I was able. Bring it on cuz you guys are it!
